Affordable Artwork Available at Sharon Arts School’s New Student Shop
Sharon, NH:// In an effort to promote the talents of their diverse student body, the nonprofit Sharon Arts School (on Route 123 in Sharon) has opened “SAC by Hand,” a new student shop. Now you can find sculptural clay creations, pint-sized masterpieces, ceramics, hand-crafted glass and silver jewelry, screen-printed t-shirts, and more at the Sharon Arts School, located at 457 Route 123 in scenic Sharon, NH. A large area of space within the administrative wing of the School has been reserved for the purpose of showcasing its students.
Sharon Arts School staff and faculty look forward to the growth of the shop as 2011 classes run their course. The shop is currently open during SAC School office hours, Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30. All items are priced affordably between $5 and $200.
“We’re excited to offer an outlet that benefits the students, informs potential students, and supports the School itself. Now, folks can walk in the door and enjoy art and craft objects made in this building, under the guidance of our faculty, and using our equipment.” said School Director Alexandra Wall. “Some students who sell their work with us have been learning for a lifetime, others are fairly new- exploring student work at our shop will help newcomers to discover their inner artist and be inspired to create a new caliber of work.”
Every item in SAC By Hand is consigned to us by active SAC students who are ready to take the next step and begin to sell their work. The art and craft is sold on consignment with a percentage of proceeds going to benefit the SAC School. The shop currently features all handmade works by nearly twenty Sharon Arts students who have shown a long-term interest and have developed skill in their medium. From teen artists to dedicated senior students, the shop features one-of-a-kind art and craft in a variety of mediums. Current Sharon Arts students interested in participating are encouraged to contact the school office at (603)924-7256.

On Monday, December 13th, a special group of Cub Scouts from Jaffrey visited the Sharon Arts Center as a part of their efforts to earn their coveted “Art Badge.” Sharon Arts organized their visit and made special arrangements for two artists exhibiting in “2-D or Not 2-D: Art Inspired by Poetry” to speak with the boys (all age 9). Kim & Scott Cunningham met with the group for an hour and spoke about their artwork, their materials, and processes- allowing plenty of time for questions from the inquisitive group. Sharon Arts was thrilled to welcome the Webelos into the gallery and encourages all community groups with an interest in a field trip visit to reach out to the Center.

ConVal Students Participate in Innovative Poetry Reading and Art Review at Sharon Arts Downtown Galleries, December 15th, 5pm
Peterborough, NH :// Student poets and student artists from ConVal will join forces and participate in an interactive exhibit at Sharon Arts Center on Wednesday, December 15th, at 5pm.
Working under the supervision of ConVal teachers Jason Lambert (English) and Ben Putnam (Visual Art), the student poets will have viewed the work of exhibiting artists from the Left Bank and Three Squared counterparts and create chap books of five to seven poems including one inspired by the work their counterpart artist is presenting for the show. The student artists that are participating have created original works of visual art based on a poem provided by one of the student writers and will have their creations available for viewing in the Launch Art Gallery during the reception on Dec. 15th. This “call and response” format is just one of many ways that Sharon Arts Center partners with area schools and community groups to enhance the reach of our exhibitions.
The Poetry Reading and Art Review is being conducted in conjunction with the Art Center’s current exhibit, “2D or Not 2D”, featuring work of two local art groups, The Left Bank and Three Squared. Participating students have agreed to a series of commitments in connection with the project which is part of Sharon Arts’ own commitment to greater outreach and interaction with people in the Monadnock community including artists, art appreciators and others.
Further information about 2D or Not 2D: Art Inspired by Poetry can be obtained here. For more information about this collaboration, contact Gallery & Store Director Camellia Sousa at (603)924-7676 or camellia@sharonarts.org.
