2-D or Not 2-D: Art Inspired by Poetry to Grace Sharon Arts Center, November 5th through December 31st
19 Local Artists from The Left Bank and Three Squared Groups present 2D or Not 2D: Art Inspired by Poetry at Sharon Arts for the Holidays
Peterborough, NH:// From Colette Lucas’s Emily Dickinson inspired entry to a work based on a poem by Kitty Cloud’s granddaughter, nineteen of the area’s most talented artists have combined to translate their favorite poems into a dazzling display of paintings, prints, collage, glass, ceramics and much more. The exhibit is titled 2D or Not 2D: Art Inspired by Poetry and it arrives just in time for Holiday viewing and gifting at Sharon Arts Downtown Galleries, November 5th to December 31st, 2010. An opening reception will take place on Friday evening November 5th from 5-7pm; the public is welcome and light refreshments will be served
The artists are members of two popular local cooperatives, The Left Bank with eight participating members including Evelien Bachrach Seeger, Sue Callihan, Kim Cunningham, Scott Cunningham, David Dodge, Soosen Dunholter, John Sirois, and Daniel Thibeault. Each is well known in the Monadnock Region for their unique styles and together they create a wide range of work, both abstract and representational.
Three Squared artists include Kitty Cloud, Leah Kristin Dahlgren, Lulu Fichter, Marcia Herson, Erick Ingraham, Jordana Korsen, Jane El Simpson, Colette Lucas, Thomas Meyers, Erin Sweeney and Pashya White – a most diverse group that puts together a show acclaimed for its quality and variety of creative vision.
A series of educational events is planned to coincide with this exhibit. The series kicks off with the Left Bank Artist Walk and Talk on Thursday, November 18th, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Participating artists are: Sue Callihan, Kim Cunningham, Scott Cunningham, and Soosen Dunholter. Also planned is a Three Squared Artist Walk and Talk on Wednesday December 8th, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Participating Artists include, Kitty Cloud, Lulu Fichter, Jordana Korsen, Erin Sweeney, and Paysha White.
Students from the Art and English Departments at ConVal High School will partner with exhibiting artists by attending the opening reception, visiting the studio of one of the artists, writing a poem inspired by artworks included in the exhibition, and creating an art piece inspired by a classmate’s poem. The project will conclude with a public reading of their poems on Wednesday, December 15th from 5:00 to 6:30pm.
