Sharon Arts Hosts a Panel Discussion on Collaborative Art Practices on June 16th – The Program is Free and Open to the Public
Peterborough, NH – - – Artist and Sharon Arts faculty member, Heather Lawless, will lead a community dialogue for area artists about collaborative art practices. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held on Wednesday, June 16th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Sharon Arts Exhibition Gallery in downtown Peterborough. The forum will begin as a panel discussion about projects, experiences and philosophies encompassing art and collaboration, after which the conversation will open to all members of the arts community. Panelists for this symposium are a diverse group of talented and knowledgeable local artists including: Executive Director and founder of The Starving Artists Collective in Keene, NH and writer/director and producing partner with either/or films, Aaron Wiederspahn; scholar, Professor of Education at Landmark College and documentary and fine art photographer, Robert Sargent Fay; printmaker, community-building artist, instructor and founder of Lovely in the Home Press in Peterborough, NH, Erin Sweeney; visual artist, writer and performer of the acclaimed one-woman show “I Will Be Good,” Tricia Rose Burt; and notable painter, New Hampshire State Council on the Arts grant winner and Professor of Art at Keene State College and Vermont College, Craig Stockwell.
“Collaboration is a vital process to all artists, even to those who seemingly work in solitude,” said Lawless. “Artists may work in a partnership or collectively with other artists in person or through long-distance correspondence, engage the public or specific communities to fuel or influence the direction of a work of art, enlist the thoughts and skills of others outside the artists’ realm of expertise, or use the response of an audience to activate a piece of art’s purpose.”
The panelists listed above all approach and utilize collaboration differently. The intention of this discussion forum is to expose the community to collaborative systems already in place and to initiate dialogue and relationships between local artists that may lead toward more artistic partnerships. Through the Professional Artists Advancement Series of seminars, workshops and events, Sharon Arts Center works to encourage the artistic growth of the community by providing local artists a venue to learn from one another’s experiences and build a strong network of professional support.
