ArtAccess with Karrie Mitschmyer
THURSDAYS, 4–7PM (SEPT. 2012–JUNE 2013)
Are you a teen in high school? Planning to go to art school or have art and creativity as a major focus of your next pursuits? Apply to be a part of ArtAccess, Sharon Arts Center’s portfolio and creative development course, open to students from high schools and alternative schooling environments throughout the region.
ArtAccess is an intensive program at Sharon Arts for High School students from throughout the Monadnock region who are interested in increased exposure to and experience in the visual arts. Students meet weekly at the SAC school throughout the school year to explore technical and theoretical aspects of art, career paths, and to investigate their creative potential as they strengthen their portfolios. Beyond our studios, students meet with artists and craftspeople, curators, gallerists, and other art professionals and take field trips to museums, galleries and studios throughout the region. With this knowledge and hand-on experience, they are able to effectively build and present their portfolios with peers and artists they meet along the way. In addition to their weekly meetings, students are encouraged to participate in community volunteer projects that will contribute to increasing awareness of the importance of art in our community. A collaborative exhibit is the group’s final project. They design invitations, write publicity, frame their work and install their own show. This program is open to students from high schools throughout the Monadnock region (including home-schoolers.)
