SHARON ARTS CENTER SCHOOL TO HOLD FALL OPEN HOUSE SEPTEMBER 17

The Sharon Arts Center School of Art and Craft, 457 Route 123, will hold a Fall Open House Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  During the day introductory programs will be offered and participants will have an opportunity to tour the facility, learn about upcoming fall classes, and meet faculty and staff.

“There’s something for everyone at this event,” says new Sharon Arts Executive Director Keri Wiederspahn. “We think it will be a fun day in which people of all ages can try their hand at several

classes to see what they might be interested in.”

Children ages 2+ are invited to participate with their parents, and teens ages 13+ can participate in any event with parental consent. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The doors open at 9 a.m. for a collaborative fundraiser project in which both children and teens will artistically decorate a panel as part of a “combination painting” of Van Gogh’s Starry Night masterpiece. All of the panels will come together in a unique collaged 4 by 6 foot wall piece to be sold in silent auction to support the Sharon Arts school.
For adults, Session 1 will involve hands-on demos and workshops from 10 a.m. to noon. Artist Robert Seaman will offer a class in drawing; Janet Duchesneau will demonstrate glass lampworking; Laura Edwards will present an eco-art group sculpture project, which will be ongoing throughout the day; and Tara Potter will show how to do papercrafting and cardmaking.

For children during Session 1, Keri Wiederspahn will be leading two “Young Artists” segments for ages 2 1/2 through 5 with their parents–one from 10 a.m to 11 a.m. and another from 11 a.m. to noon.

A bring-your-own lunch time will follow from noon to 1 p.m. During this time participants can have lunch in the garden or studios and participate in group projects.

In the afternoon from 12:30 to 3 p.m. the nationally renowned early childhood music and movement program for children Music Together will be running demo classes for families with MusicTogether for Monadnock Families instructor Nancy Salwen.

Session 2 will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with more hands-on demos and workshops. For adults, Robert Seaman will present Oil Painting 101; Janet Duchesneau will explain wheelthrowing; Joe Montroy will do a metal pouring demonstration; Mary Fish will present  wet felting; and the eco-art group sculpture project will continue with Laura Edwards.
Children are welcome to try their hand at “Wet Felting” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. as well as the eco-art group sculpture project.
In addition to these events, there will be a raffle, face painting, a clay play table for kids, and a student shop.
Tuition for adults and teens ages 13+ is $20 per session or $35 for an entire day. Children through age 12 will be admitted to the morning session, 9 a.m. to noon, for $10 or $17.50 for the entire day. For course registration, call (603) 924-7256 or email register@sharonarts.org.
