OIL PAINTING DEMONSTRATION BY ARTIST MARY ISELIN AT SHARON ARTS CENTER SEPT. 24
As part of its Faculty Exhibit, “Passion for Art: Pass It On,” the Sharon Arts Center is holding a series of artist talks and demonstrations at their Downtown Gallery, 30 Grove St.
On Sat., Sept. 24 from 1 to 3 pm Mary Iselin of Marlborough, NH will present an oil painting demonstration. Known for her light-filled, luminous paintings of sheep, lambs, and horses as well as plein air landscapes, Iselin is a member of the Sharon Arts Center’s School of Art & Craft faculty.
Since she’s spent the last 30 years on a working farm in the Monadnock region of NH, Iselin’s subject matter is all around her. “I see the horse as a bridge connecting spirit with everyday reality,” she says, “and the sheep and lambs which become my models are chosen for the ability of their fleece to take the light….I paint horses the way some artists would paint a bowl of fruit: as a vehicle to explore light, color, atmosphere, and, most of all, spirit. The longer I paint, and I have been painting most of my life, the more I feel that the point is to just paint. Techniques can be learned, styles can be copied, but when all is said and done, it is the artist’s honest response to his motif that creates art.”
For more information about Iselin’s demonstration, as well as an upcoming artist talk by Marylise Reilly-Fajal on Oct. 6 from 5 to 6:30 pm and a Polymer Clay mini-workshop by Connie Gray on Oct. 22 from 1 to 3 pm, call (603) 924-7676.
