PETERBOROUGH, NH --- The Sharon Arts Fine Craft Gallery is featuring an exhibit of jade jewelry designed by Eila Mackenzie of Kaarina M. Designs. The Canadian nephrite jade is mined in British Columbia east of Juneau, Alaska and the Siberian jade is mined near Lake Bakal in Russia. Also displayed is a cup made of Mandarin Duck jade, mined only in Gansu province in western China. The exhibit runs through October 23.
"The world of cultured pearls, gemstones and old jades opened up for me when my son and his family moved to China in 1996," said Mackenzie. "When I travel, interesting gemstones and unusual pieces come back as souvenirs from Yunnan province in China, the flea markets in Paris, or antique shops on the country roads in Canada. I create unusual jewelry, mainly necklaces, using these wonderful materials." Mackenzie's jewelry is for sale at the Sharon Arts Fine Craft Gallery and Store year round. More examples of her work can be seen at her website: www.ekmjewels.com. The mission of Sharon Arts Center, a non-profit organization, is to support and serve artists and craftspeople, to engage the community in the artistic process, and to foster the relationship between artists and the community through education, exhibitions, the promotion and sale of art and craft, as well as through special programs and events.
