art and community with rachel lehr 2005-06-24The Sharon Arts Center School of Arts and Crafts is pleased to present the third lecture in their Spring 2005 series: "Art and Community" with Rachel Lehr. Art making is the thread that strengthens community bonds and helps weave a unique identity for its members. For people working as individuals or as a group, creative work is exciting and empowering. Rachel Lehr, whose work is an expression of this interactive process, will talk about her own experience of community art work with children and adults from New England schools to Afghan villages. The lecture will be held on Friday June 24, 2005 at 7 p.m. at the School of Arts and Crafts in Sharon. It is free and open to the public. For more information call 924-7256 x 305.

Rachel Lehr is an award winning state-juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. She is also a member of the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, Artist in Education and Community Arts rosters. She has worked as an artist in residence with many groups of children throughout the country creating everything from finger puppets to murals and yurts.

In 2000 Lehr helped found Rubia, a non-profit organization serving Afghan women through training, education, health care, and promotion of their traditional handwork. She is currently involved in "The Heart of the Silk Road", a two-year initiative of the Arts Alliance of Northern NH, supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Sharon Arts Center is a non-profit organization that has been committed to the arts and artists for more than 50 years. It is supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts & National Endowment for the Arts. The School is located at 457 Route 123, Sharon.
