PETERBOROUGH, NH --- The Colored Light exhibit brings holiday joy and color to the Sharon Arts Exhibition Gallery, located on Grove Street in downtown Peterborough. Glass works by more than twenty New England glass artists will be on display. The exhibit will run from November 6th, 2009 to January 9th, 2010, with the Opening Reception on Friday, November 6th, 5-7pm. Many of the participating artists will be in attendance at this reception, which is open to the public and admission is free.
The Colored Light exhibit at Sharon Arts will feature work that celebrates the art of glass making, as well as the local and regional artists; and will include a selection of glass works created using a wide variety of techniques and styles. On display will be hand-blown glass, fused glass, lampwork glass, glass mosaic, Dichroic glass, stained glass, glass assemblage, as well as other techniques. There will also be a Glass Exploration Station in the gallery, which will encourage visitors to explore and learn more about the artists and processes they use to create the beautiful works on display. Thought to have originated as early as 3500 BC, glass has been an art form for centuries. This exhibition will represent a diverse display of artwork created by artists who have chosen glass as a means of artistic expression, and have worked to refine their skills in a way that best produces the outcome they desire. Marta Bernbaum, a glass artist and Sharon Arts faculty member explains that "ten years of studying the processes of using an oxy/propane torch to melt thin glass rods into various forms have helped to develop the skills needed to produce my artistic visions with the detail and delicacy I desire." Each artist has a unique approach at working with glass; and therefore, a wide variety of art glass will be on exhibit and available for purchase. Artists featured include Josh Bernbaum, Marta Bernbaum, Caitlin Burch, Robert Burch, Susan Brown, Hal Danser, Eric Duyette, Michael Egan, Olen Givens, Jordana Korsen, Cheryl Kumiski, Thomas Meyers, Richard Millard, Victoria Millard, Sylvia Nicolas, Sarah Hamilton-Parker, George Ponzini, Sally Prasch, Cynthia Liebler Saari, Susan Pratt Smith, Randi Solin, Penelope Wurr, and Terry Zigmund. Special Educational Program: Vitreous Voices: A Panel Discussion, featuring several exhibiting artists who will talk about the glass processes they use when creating their art. This program will take place on Saturday, November 21st at 4pm in the Gallery, and is free and open to the public. The mission of Sharon Arts Center, a non-profit organization, is to support and serve artists and craftspeople, to engage the community in the artistic process, and to foster the relationship between artists and the community through education, exhibitions, the promotion and sale of art and craft, as well as through special programs and events.
