Open Studio Figure Drawing this Fall at Sharon Arts Center
September 12, 2006, Sharon NH
Sharon Arts School is pleased to announce an addendum to their fall offerings. At the request of area artists, they are offering six sessions of open studio figure drawing Thursdays, October 12th through November 16th from 6 to 9 pm. Participants can work in the medium of their choice to capture the details of a different male or female nude model each week.
The human figure has been an important subject for artists for over 2000 years - since primitive man carved stone fertility goddesses, and ancient Greeks first carved figures in marble. Their timeless, great art set the standard for the representation of the figure for many centuries. Today exploration of the figure in art remains essential to developing artistic skills both technical and expressive. The human form, real and abstract, in line and full color is important to explore as one of visual art's foundations and for artists looking to pursue formal education figure drawing is a key part of any portfolio.
Artists can register for all six sessions ($65 for Sharon Arts Members or $85 other), or can "drop in" for sessions individually ($14 for Sharon Arts Members or $16 other). Students who show college or high school ID's automatically receive the member price. Mature artists of all skill levels are encouraged to attend these sessions to create freely at their own pace and in their own style. There will be no instruction, simply surround yourself with other artists interested exploring the figure in any medium. Easels, tables and sculpture stands (for those who create in the third dimension) are available. Attendance will be limited to 20 participants to ensure good views around the room.
