The Sharon Arts Gallery in Depot Square, Peterborough, NH, is sponsoring a new exhibit, Pastel Society of New Hampshire: Founders and Friends, from June 2 to July 2, 2006. An Opening Reception is being held on Friday, June 2 from 5 – 7 PM. The exhibit showcases the work of fourteen pastel artists who are instrumental in the founding of the Pastel Society of New Hampshire.

The featured artists are: Barbara Stevens Adams (Portsmouth), Don R. Belanger (Concord), Robert K. Carsten PSA (Springfield, VT), Katherine S. Clark (Kensington), Kitty Cloud (Peterborough), Robert Collier (Rindge), Barbara Danser (Jaffrey), Betsy Derrick (Hanover), Teresa McCue (Portsmouth), Mary Jane Morse (W. Lebanon), Chris Reid (Jaffrey), Gail E. Sauter, PSA (Kittery, ME), Lee Sullivan (Peterborough) and Harriet Winchester (Nashua).

Throughout the run of the exhibition, scheduled demonstrations and gallery talks will be presented by the exhibiting artists in the Sharon Arts Gallery for visiting student groups and for the public.

• Gail E. Sauter, PSA, will present a round-table discussion on “Style” in the Gallery on Saturday, June 3, from 10 AM to noon.
• On Saturday, June 10 from 11 to noon, Barbara Danser will demonstrate the packing of various media for painting in the landscape, and she will discuss the difference between plein air painting and studio painting.
• On Saturday, June 17 from 11 to noon, Chris Reid will demonstrate the use of color in pastel painting.
• Robert Carsten, PSA, will demonstrate his painting methods on Thursday, June 29, from 5-6 PM.

The Sharon Arts Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to stimulate, encourage and promote education in the theory and practice of arts and crafts, through instruction, exhibitions and assistance to the practitioners of the arts and crafts in marketing their products.
