Students of all ages and abilities are invited to explore their choice of nearly a dozen art and craft mediums at the nonprofit Sharon Arts Center School of Art and Craft’s Open House Workshops Cera Ageieff of New Boston doing Glass Bead and Sculpture at Open Houseon Saturday, April 16th, 10am-3pm; a “no-strings” introduction to the School’s lineup of courses and workshops for the Spring term.

Courses include art journals, digital image editing, glass bead and sculpture, intro to oil painting, wheel-throwing, polymer clay, drawing, and more. “Our semi-annual Open House event allows people to try their hand at one or more art and craft techniques without having to commit to a full course or workshop,” said Alexandra Wall, School Director. “Each session includes a 2-hour mini-workshop which is part demo and part hands-on experience, guided by a Sharon Arts faculty member. Participants can explore the art or craft of their choice; one activity in the morning session (10am to 12noon,) and another in the afternoon (1 to 3pm,)” Alexandra added. Pre-registration is encouraged, and walk-ins are welcome.

In addition to the mini-workshops, the event will include: a Pottery Potluck fundraiser, student exhibition, raffle prize drawing, and a chance to meet photographer Elsa Voelcker (1-3pm) and have a free 5×7” portrait photo taken. Elsa’s experience is in photographing body art, but her portrait photography is open to anyone. All participants will receive their free photograph in the mail following the event. Participants donning their own body art can even learn about getting involved in her photography grant project on tattoos and body art.

Kaitlyn Gosnell of Greenfield doing Art Journaling at Open HouseWhile refreshments will be provided in the morning and afternoon, attendees are invited to bring a lunch, or to select a handmade ceramic piece from the Pottery Potluck fundraiser and get a free lunch with purchase!  Fundraiser proceeds benefit the ceramics lab.
